construction site security

An open job site is an easy target. Copper wire, tools, generators, appliances and heavy equipment sit behind a chain-link fence every night and every weekend, and one bad night can set a schedule back by weeks. Atack Protection Group puts trained, licensed guards on construction sites across Tampa Bay, Orlando and South Florida, so your crews come back to the site the way they left it.

Led by CEO Hector Garcia, Atack has 45 years in business and is disabled-veteran-owned and minority-owned. Our guards are licensed and bonded in Florida, with Class D unarmed guards for most posts and Class G armed guards where the risk calls for it.

Stop Theft of Copper, Tools and Equipment

Thieves look for sites with no one watching. Copper wire and pipe, hand and power tools, generators, light towers, HVAC units, appliances waiting to be installed and building materials all disappear from unguarded sites, and stolen equipment can stop work for days. A visible guard is the strongest deterrent there is. Our guards:

  • Watch material yards, containers, laydown areas and the equipment parked overnight
  • Check that gates, containers and job trailers are locked at the end of each shift
  • Watch for vehicles that stop at the fence line or circle the site after hours
  • Report damage, open gates and missing locks to your superintendent the same day
  • Document every incident in a written report you can give to your insurance carrier

After-Hours Guards and Vehicle and Foot Patrols

Most job site theft happens after the crews leave. We staff the hours your site is empty: nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Overnight and weekend guards posted at the gate or in a site vehicle
  • Foot patrols of the perimeter, the building shell, the floors under construction and the material yards
  • Vehicle patrols for large sites, multi-phase developments and sites with several gates
  • Logged rounds so you can see when each area was checked
  • Armed or unarmed guards, depending on the site and the risk. See armed security guards and unarmed security guards.

Gate and Access Control, Visitor and Delivery Logs

During the workday, the risk is who walks onto the site. Our guards manage the gate so only the right people and trucks get in.

  • Checking workers, subcontractors and visitors against your approved list
  • Visitor sign-in and sign-out logs
  • Delivery logs: who delivered what, when, and where it was dropped
  • Keeping unauthorized people, trespassers and scrappers off the site
  • Opening and locking the gate at shift change
  • Directing trucks and equipment in and out of the gate safely

Fire Watch During Hot Work

Welding, cutting, torch-applied roofing and other hot work can start fires that smolder long after the crew moves on. When the permit, the fire marshal or the authority having jurisdiction requires a fire watch, Atack provides unarmed fire watch guards who:

  • Watch the hot work area during the work and for as long as the permit requires after it
  • Keep fire extinguishers ready and check that exits and access stay clear
  • Log each round and raise the alarm right away if there’s a fire
  • Cover sites where the fire alarm or sprinkler system isn’t active yet

We can also post supplemental security: one guard on fire watch and a separate guard on the gate. See fire watch and fire watch in Miami-Dade.

Post-Storm Site Protection

After a hurricane or a tropical storm, job sites are at their most exposed. Fences are down, trailers are damaged and lights and cameras are out, at the same moment that theft of copper, tools, generators and building materials goes up. Atack posts guards on damaged and closed sites, controls access while adjusters and crews do their work and runs patrols until the site is secure again. That includes Gulf Coast sites from Tampa Bay down to Fort Myers and Naples. Learn more about hurricane property security and disaster preparedness.

Construction Site Security in Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay is one of the busiest building markets in Florida, with high-rise residential and hotel towers, apartment complexes, warehouses and distribution centers, and road and utility projects from Tampa to St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Atack provides construction site security guards, overnight patrols, gate control and hot work fire watch on job sites across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

Construction Site Security in Orlando and Central Florida

From Orlando, Kissimmee and Sanford to Lakeland, Daytona Beach, Ocala and the Space Coast, Central Florida’s growth means more open job sites: hotel and resort projects, apartment communities, logistics buildings and new subdivisions. Our guards cover after-hours shifts, gate and delivery control and fire watch on active sites throughout the Orlando metro.

We also protect job sites across all of South Florida, including Miami, Doral, Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, as well as the Florida Keys and the Treasure Coast. Construction Site Security FAQ

Do I need a security guard on my construction site?

If your site holds materials, tools or equipment overnight, or the public can easily reach it, a guard is the most effective way to prevent theft and trespassing. A visible guard deters thieves before they try, and your crews get a written record of anything that happens. Many sites start with night and weekend coverage only.

Should I hire armed or unarmed guards for my job site?

Most construction sites are well covered by Class D unarmed guards for gate control, patrols and fire watch. Class G armed guards are available for higher-risk sites, such as sites with repeated break-ins or high-value equipment. We’ll recommend the right mix during a free site assessment.

Can your guards patrol the site after hours and on weekends?

Yes. We provide overnight, weekend and holiday guards, with foot patrols of the perimeter and the building and vehicle patrols for larger sites. Each round is logged, and incidents are reported to your site contact.

Do you provide fire watch for hot work on construction sites?

Yes. We provide unarmed fire watch guards during welding, cutting and other hot work, and for as long after the work as your permit or the authority having jurisdiction requires. We can also provide a separate supplemental security guard for the gate.

Can you control the gate and keep delivery logs?

Yes. Our guards check workers, subcontractors and visitors at the gate, keep visitor and delivery logs and keep unauthorized people off the site. You get copies of the logs for your records.

Do you protect job sites after a hurricane?

Yes. After a storm we post guards on damaged or closed sites, control access while crews and adjusters work and patrol for theft until fences, lights and cameras are back up. That includes Tampa Bay and the rest of the Gulf Coast.

Which areas do you cover for construction site security?

We cover all of South Florida, including the Florida Keys and the Treasure Coast; Central Florida, including Orlando, Kissimmee, Sanford, Lakeland, Daytona Beach, Ocala and the Space Coast; and the Gulf Coast from Tampa to Naples.
