Hurricane Security & Disaster Preparedness in South Florida

florida disaster response and preparedness

Atack Protection Group helps businesses and property owners plan for hurricanes and other emergencies, and protects people and property after the storm has passed. Our home base is South Florida, and we take hurricane work across Florida.

Our guards include people with law enforcement and military backgrounds, and our CEO, Hector Garcia, led security for State Farm after Hurricane Katrina, where his teams protected adjusters in the field. We plan the coverage with you before a storm and staff it afterward.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. The best time to arrange security is before a storm is in the forecast. Atack Protection Group provides armed guards, unarmed guards and off-duty police for the days before and after a storm. Call (954) 559-0486 and we will go over your property.

Before the Storm: Planning and Preparation

A security plan made in advance means guards, post orders and contacts are settled before the first warning. Before a storm, we can:

  • Walk the property with you and note weak points such as unlit areas, open access points and unattended equipment
  • Write an emergency response plan covering who is on site, who has access and who to call
  • Agree on armed or unarmed guard coverage for the days after the storm
  • Set up a pre-season agreement so coverage is arranged before storm season
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement

Know your evacuation zone before a storm approaches. The Florida Division of Emergency Management’s Know Your Zone tool shows it, and local officials’ evacuation orders always come first.

After the Storm: Protecting Property, Crews and Adjusters

Closed and damaged buildings can attract looting and theft once the storm has passed and local officials say it is safe to return. After a storm, we can:

  • Place guards on damaged, closed or vacant property
  • Control access for owners, employees, contractors and vendors
  • Watch for looting and theft, and document what happens
  • Escort insurance adjusters, contractors and crews in the field
  • Provide 24/7 security for employees, vendors, offices and residences
  • Support tents and staging areas for recovery operations

For more on what looting and theft look like after a Florida storm and how to protect against them, read our post, After the Storm: Protecting South Florida Property From Looting and Theft.

Hurricane Security FAQ

What does hurricane security include?

Hurricane security covers the planning before a storm and the protection of people and property afterward. Before a storm, Atack Protection Group can walk a site with you, identify weak points and agree on a written emergency response plan. After a storm, guards can control access to damaged or closed property, watch for looting and theft, and escort adjusters, contractors and crews.

When should I arrange hurricane security?

Before hurricane season starts. The Atlantic season runs June 1 to November 30, and a plan agreed in advance means guards, post orders and contacts are settled before a storm is in the forecast. If a storm is already approaching, call (954) 559-0486 and tell us the address and what you need.

Do you provide armed or unarmed guards after a storm?

Both. Atack provides armed guards, unarmed guards and off-duty police. The right mix depends on the property, what is still on site and what your insurer or the local authorities require. We will go over it with you when we assess the site.

Can your guards escort insurance adjusters and contractors?

Yes. After Hurricane Katrina, our CEO, Hector Garcia, led security for State Farm, and his teams protected adjusters in the field. Atack applies the same approach to adjuster and contractor escorts in Florida.

Which areas do you cover for hurricane response?

Our home base is South Florida: Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. We also take hurricane work elsewhere in Florida. Call (954) 559-0486 with the location and we will tell you what we can do.

How do I find out if I am in an evacuation zone?

Use the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s Know Your Zone tool at floridadisaster.org/knowyourzone, or your county emergency management website. Always follow evacuation orders from local officials. Guards and property managers should not stay in an evacuation zone once an order is issued.
